The art of fencing is in demand! Who does not want an exciting sport or a fun recreational activity? Strategy, focus, controlled movements, precision of blade work, coordination, speed will be yours with practice!

The Atlantic Fencing Academy in Tinton Falls, as one of the oldest and well-established club in New Jersey opened its doors in 1999. First sessions with a small group of fencers practiced at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, NJ.

As participation increased, and many foil and epee fencers started competing we needed a more fencing dedicated space. The club moved its activities to Colts Neck, NJ on the invitation of the Department of Recreation. That period was a very fruitful collaboration between the Department and the Academy. We introduced fencing to many young and adult, and the Department received a prestigious national award for their excellent recreational program activities. As we expanded, we opened another facility in East Brunswick and hired more coaches. We introduced the third Olympic weapon, the saber. Also, a part of the facility was dedicated to personal conditioning training.

As the demand has grown for more space, we decided to consolidate the two operations, and in 2009 we found a home at 1 Sheila Drive, Tinton Falls, NJ. We designed a salle for optimal and safe fencing activities and a comfortable environment for parents and visitors. It was a great undertaking, and our members and families helped to make it one of the nicest fencing facilities in the US. The eleven full sized, grounded electric strips built on joint protective flooring. Scoring machines with repeaters at the end of the strips make it easy to follow the touches. The huge projector screen is popular to watch exciting bouts of international fencers and following world championships, Olympic events. It is also used for evaluating bouts and sparring of our members and display running tournament’s results. The generous sitting area provides comfortable surrounding for parents and spectators. The pro shop offers promotional items, spare parts, and off course full fencing equipment for beginner to advanced fencers.

At Atlantic Fencing Academy, we welcome all skill levels and ages. Thousands of fencers attended our classes and took lessons from our excellent coaches. Some fence for personal health and fitness benefits, and many strive for national and international success.

Very compelling goal is to become a member of a high school or NCAA college team. We are immensely proud of the results of our fencers. Our first national championship finalist was a 14-year-old women’s epee fencer who later represented the Stevens Institute of Technology fencing team. Others, who started with us fenced for college teams like Brandeis, Columbia, Harvard, Haverford, Middlebury, NJIT, NYU, Sacred Heart, US Air Force Academy, UNC, Notre Dame, UPenn, Wellesley, Yale …Two of them became team captains.

Fencing is great for all ages. Many adults used to fence in their younger years or college and returned to the strips. Others started late and enjoy the physical, mental challenge and the social aspect of the sport. Our oldest fencer is eighty+ years old who started fencing in her early seventies! Veteran ( 40, 50, 60, 70 years and up ) competitions are popular both national and international level and great opportunity to travel and socialize.
